FALL 2014 UPDATE: The harvesting of City-owned trees continues through Hidden Harvest Ottawa. Find our more on their website here: http://ottawa.hiddenharvest.ca

The Ottawa Trees to Tables Project (2012 to 2013) aims to connect the fruits of nature to those in need. The project will harness the city’s green infrastructure, which is underused or ignored, in order to help fight community hunger in Ottawa. The City of Ottawa has more than 4,000 food-bearing trees throughout the municipality. These trees produce fresh food that the Ottawa Trees to Tables Project, with volunteer assistance citywide, will collect and make available to those whom will benefit.

Three organizations, Hidden Harvest Ottawa, the Ottawa Food Bank, and Cisco Systems, who have the issue of hunger in their mandates have come together to harness the resourceful capabilities of the City of Ottawa’s food-bearing trees.

Together these organizations have created the Ottawa Trees to Tables Project through the Ontario Centres of Excellence’s Social Innovation Program.oce_logo_notagB51A9EDE7B62

Cisco System's Ottawa R&D team has helped to make this project happen through a generous contribution for the purchase of equipment to store freshly harvested food and we are excited to harvest some food with their staff this summer.
